The Flame Within: A Hope Ritual for Troubled Times

A Light in the Storm

Let’s be real—this political season has been triggering as fuck.

If you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, furious, or even numb about what’s happening under the current Trump administration… you’re not alone. Many of us are carrying old trauma that’s getting reactivated by all of this. And it’s not just personal—it’s collective. The chaos, the cruelty, the gaslighting—it’s enough to make even the strongest hearts feel heavy.

But you are not powerless.

There is still something no one can take from you: your inner flame.
And when you reconnect with yourself—your truth, your pain, your strength—you reconnect with something greater: hope.

This ritual is for those of us who refuse to go numb.
Who choose to feel and keep going.
Who believe in a better future—because we are the ones creating it.

Put on an instrumental piece of music that stirs your hope—something that reminds you of your strength, your resilience, your light. Or choose a track from this playlist.
Light a candle.
Take a breath.
And let’s begin.

The Flame Within: An IFS-Based Hope Ritual for Troubled Times

Setting the Space

  • Light a single candle or turn on a soft light.
  • Place one hand on your heart, and the other on your belly.
  • Sit or stand in a position of dignity—not perfection, but strength. Grounded.

Part I: The Inner Gathering

Say (aloud or internally):
“All parts of me are welcome here. Especially the ones who feel afraid, angry, hopeless, or overwhelmed.”

Take a few breaths and notice:

  • What part of you most wants to speak about what’s happening in the world?
  • Where do you feel it in your body?
  • What is it saying?

Gently say to that part:
“I see you. I hear you. You make sense.”
Then ask:
“What do you need from me right now?”

Listen with compassion, without needing to fix.
Repeat with all parts/emotions that come forward to be felt/heard.

Part II: Widening the Circle

Imagine that you’re not alone.
Picture a circle of others—millions—who are also afraid, furious, tired, or grieving under this administration.

Feel the shared presence.

Say:
“We are not alone. Even if we feel it sometimes. We are part of something bigger. We are part of the resistance. We are part of the healing.”

Part III: Calling in Power

Place your hands out in front of you, palms up.

Say:
“I call back my power from despair.”
“I call back my vision from fear.”
“I call back my courage from numbness.”
“I call back my voice from silence.”

Pause to feel the shift. Feel the energy coming back to you.

Say:
“Even in a broken world, I still get to choose how I live, how I love, and how I lead.”

Part IV: Remembering Hope

Now, place your hand over the flame (not too close), feeling the warmth.

Say:
“Hope is not naive.
Hope is rebellion.
Hope is memory that we have survived before.
Hope is a sacred act of defiance.”

Close your eyes.
Picture one thing you’re hopeful for.
One thing you believe is still possible.
One act of goodness you can still do.

Part V: Closing

Say:
“The world will not define me.
Fear will not consume me.
And I will not give up—on myself, on others, or on the future.”

Blow out the candle, imagining the hope spreading like sparks to others who need it.

Optional: Journaling Prompts

  • What parts of me are most afraid of this political moment?
  • What do they need from me to feel safer?
  • What gives me hope right now, even if it’s small?
  • What role do I want to play in this chapter of history?

We Keep the Flame Alive

Listen—there’s no sugarcoating it. These times are intense. They test our faith in humanity, in the system, and sometimes even in ourselves. But the truth is, we’ve always had to fight for the future we believe in. And we always will. That’s what makes us powerful.

So when the noise gets loud…
When the cruelty makes you want to shut down…
When the hopelessness creeps in like a fog—return to yourself.

Let your rituals be your rebellion.
Let your hope be your protest.
Let your love be your revolution.

We are not just surviving this.
We are shaping what comes next.

Keep coming back to your inner flame. Keep choosing connection. Keep choosing hope.

Together—we got this. 🔥
