How I Help People Heal Religious Trauma & Sexual Shame

Doubting, questioning, deconstructing, or deconverting from religion can turn your world upside down. It can lead to fear, depression, hopelessness, and loss of meaning. It can impact relationships, sense of self, sexuality, and every area of life. If you are experiencing any of these challenges, I am here to help. I provide compassionate, evidence-based support to help individuals heal sexual shame and trauma related to adverse religious experiences. I help people compassionately reconnect with parts of themselves they lost to belong in religious institutions and families. I help them reconnect with their body and learn to love themselves again.

IFS heals the pain of losses and increases self-connection, helping people move forward in creating a life they want. IFS heals trauma and sexual shame, increasing self-compassion & self-love. I am Level 1 & 2 trained in IFS and working on a certification in Religious Trauma Studies. I provide non-religious therapy and respect the beliefs of those I work with.

I know how disorienting and difficult it can be to question long-held beliefs, leave a faith community, heal religious trauma/sexual shame, and find ones own way outside of religion. With the right tools and support, healing is possible. We can reclaim parts of ourselves we lost to religion. We can courageously create lives that are authentic, safe, and free.

If you or someone you know could use this kind of healing or support, I am accepting new clients online throughout California (click here for more info).

In compassionate support of your freedom and healing,

Forest Benedict, LMFT
