I just wrote this short piece on my work blog that provides a few great resources for those who are losing steam as they pursue their goals. It is called “In The Face of Failure: How to Get Back Up & Go For Your Goals“. Please enjoy and share.
“You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” Psalm 16:11
I have found that my relationship with God, just like any love-based relationship, has two essential components…
- Being delighted in God’s presence
- Letting God delight in my presence
This may sound blasphemous or prideful at first glance. What I mean, and what I believe the Biblical narrative reveals to us, is that God is a Father who delights in his children (Zephaniah 3:17). Not that we deserve this affection based on our behavior but that God’s very nature is love and He is a Father who runs to us. When we walk into the room, God’s face lights up with joy! Daily, I aim to practicing a few moments of imagining this kind of Divine interaction. And I believe it helps me trust more fully in God’s loving nature, healing wounds of fear and shame, preparing me to faithfully walk His paths of purpose.
I invite you to do the same.
This Wednesday I have the privilege of speaking to hundreds of local college students about pornography and my recovery story. As I think about this challenge and opportunity, I am keenly aware of my need for God’s strength. I am reassured by His love. He holds my hand, goes with me, and fills me, as always, with a deep sense of security, expectation, and trust.
“You fight my every battle and I will not fear” -Kari Jobe
“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, do not fear; I will help you.” Isaiah 41:13
Please pray with me for the hearts of those students and for mine as well. I am certain that most of my audience is struggling sexually in some way. May our time together overflow with hope and lead to healing.
“You were a dream in the mind of God before you were a fetus in your mother or an infant in the arms of your father. God imagined you. He dreamed you up. And he knew you. He didn’t just think of you. He knew you…Can you imagine how God dreamed when he dreamed of you before you took your first breath?
If we were a dream of God before we took our first breath, shouldn’t we live out the dreams of God before we live out our last breath?
This is what it means to live by faith.”
This is deep…..
Recently I was asked recently by Kristen Jenson, author of Good Pictures Bad Pictures, why I fight pornography and how I protect my own kids. Today the article was published on the Porn Proof Kids blog. I hope you find it encouraging and I would be honored if you would share it with others. Here it is:
This week has been powerful and productive, as I’ve focused on God and worthy goals.
This morning as I listened quietly, I heard this:
“You were so productive on many levels (this week). Today, be productive in rest. Let Me hold you. Let your body heal. Have fun, be joyful, connect. Let my peace pass over you. And you’ll be more prepared for the week to come. Rest in Me.”
Isn’t it interesting that the word “rest” begins the word “restore”?
“Return to your rest, my soul,
for the Lord has been good to you.”
This is my prayer and my plan for today.
I want to share a great free resource for parents. I recently did my seminar in Turlock called “Dangerous Access: Protecting Children from the Path of Pornography” and it is available online now. Please share this resource with others and know that it is not intended for a younger audience. For follow-up questions and additional resources, click here.
One of my favorite restaurants was called Revive Cafe. It served some of the healthiest, most delicious food ever dreamed up. Every time I visited, I knew I would be filled with something worth savoring. This restaurant truly lived up to its name.
Did you know that God wants to revive our souls?
Isaiah 58:15 says, “For this is what the high and exalted One says— he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.”
The word revive means….
To restore to life or consciousness
To regain strength
To experience renewed energy.
I am delighted to imagine that our loving Father, though He is great and powerful, is delighted to revive those who come to Him. He truly is the One who restores the weary soul, strengthening the ones He so loves, that we may again fly on wings like eagles.
May we not only seek out the product of His renewed strength today but also savor the process of receiving from our Savior.
Tonight I have another great opportunity to present to parents about protecting children from pornography at Crossroads Church in Turlock. For those who do not want to brave the rain or who want to watch from a distance live at 7pm (PST) or by video recording later, here is the link:
Tonight’s presentation is aimed at a Christian audience, from Christian (and science) based perspectives. All adults are invited to watch and the content will benefit all.
I hope to see you there!
